3.1Australia is culturally and linguistically diverse, and culturally reflective practice, as the members of each culture understand it, matters for every community. Professional practice means the psychologist: (a) respects every person's culture, beliefs, gender identity, sexuality and experience; (b) acknowledges the social, economic, cultural, historical and behavioural influences on health and functioning for individuals, communities and populations; (c) respects diversity, avoids bias, unlawful discrimination and racism, and questions beliefs resting on assumptions about age, gender, sexuality, disability, race, ethnicity, religion or politics; (d) supports an inclusive setting in which the client and associated parties are safe and secure; and (e) models a positive, culturally reflective workplace and supports the rights, dignity and safety of clients, practitioners and colleagues.
