8.4Psychologists have a duty to uphold the profession's reputation by avoiding conduct, in practice or private life, that could bring psychology into disrepute or cast doubt on their fitness to practise, and to remember that remarks meant to be private can become public and affect the profession's standing (the Board's social media guidance applies). In public statements of any kind, social media included, professional behaviour means the psychologist: (a) uses respectful language, respects others' privacy and keeps proper boundaries; and (b) comments on an informed basis, drawing on current peer-reviewed research or their demonstrated experience and expertise.
