| 3.1 | Culturally safe and respectful practice matters for every community in a culturally and linguistically diverse Australia. Good practice means the practitioner: (a) understands that the judgement of whether care was culturally safe and respectful belongs to the patient and their family alone; (b) respects people's differing cultures, beliefs, gender identities, sexualities and life experiences, colleagues included; (c) acknowledges the social, economic, cultural, historical and behavioural influences on health at individual, community and population level; (d) works in ways that respect diversity, steer clear of bias, discrimination and racism, and question beliefs resting on assumptions (for example about a person's gender, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, age or politics); (e) supports an inclusive setting in which the patient and their family, carers or significant others are safe and secure; and (f) builds a positive, culturally safe workplace through role modelling and supports the rights, dignity and safety of patients and colleagues. Completing this worksheet records what your practice holds and where. It does not make a practice compliant or ready for audit, and it is not legal advice.
