8.7Advertising can usefully inform clients but must not be false, misleading or deceptive, and testimonials, especially about the clinical side of a service, can raise unreasonable expectations of benefit or encourage unnecessary use. Effective practice means complying with the National Law (explained further in the National Boards' advertising guidelines) and with Commonwealth, state and territory fair trading and consumer protection law and, where it applies, the law on advertising therapeutic goods, and keeping all promotion of services ethical.
