Psychology Board Code of conduct for psychologists on the standards library
A psychologist who steps in during an emergency weighs more than the help being given: their own safety, their skills, what other options are available and the effect on their other clients, and they keep helping until assistance is objectively no longer needed.
- Contemporaneous note of the emergency, the help given and the point at which other services took over
- Practice emergency procedure covering staff safety, escalation contacts and cover for other booked clients
- No record of an emergency intervention
- Assistance ended before other help arrived, with no reason recorded
