Core module: Medication
The Core module outcome medication: every quality indicator the NDIS Practice Standards set for it (Core 26.1, Core 26.2, Core 26.3), what an auditor asks to see under each, the common gaps, and a free worksheet to fill in.

Rules Schedules 1 to 8, Compilation No. 6 (F2026C00527) and Quality Indicators Guidelines Compilation No. 3 (F2026C00528), in force 1 July 2026

Registered NDIS providers audited by certification: registered for early childhood supports, specialist behaviour support, implementing behaviour support plans or regulated restrictive practices, or specialised support coordination. An individual or partnership whose only certification requirement is early childhood supports meets only Core clause 7 (freedom from abuse) and Module 3 (Rules s 20(4) and (5)).
NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators on the standards library
The NDIS Commission's review of the Practice Standards (a proposed quality framework and changes to the standards and how they are assessed) is still being considered; nothing from it is in force.
Core 26 applies to a provider whose workers administer medication: it sets duties for every worker responsible for administering medication (Core 26.2).
Records clearly identify each participant's medication and dosage and include all the information needed to identify the participant correctly and administer the medication safely.
- Medication charts or administration records with photo identification
- Prescriber orders or pharmacy-generated medication profiles
- Medication administration signing sheets in the file sample
- Charts without participant photo or allergies
- Gaps in administration signatures
Every worker responsible for administering medication understands its effects and side-effects and what to do if a medication incident occurs.
- Medication administration training and competency assessments
- Medication information sheets available to workers
- Medication incident procedure and incident register entries
- Competency never reassessed
- Medication errors not reported as incidents
All medication is stored safely and securely, is easy to identify and tell apart, and is accessed only by appropriately trained workers.
- Locked storage and key or access control records
- Storage temperature logs where required
- Labelled blister packs or containers per participant
- Access lists limited to trained workers
- Medications from different participants stored together unlabelled
- Untrained staff with access to medication
