Module 2A: Interim behaviour support plans

The Module 2A outcome interim behaviour support plans: every quality indicator the NDIS Practice Standards set for it (Module 2A 10.1, Module 2A 10.2, Module 2A 10.3), what an auditor asks to see under each, the common gaps, and a free worksheet to fill in.

Who it applies to

Registered providers whose supports involve, or may involve, a regulated restrictive practice, including those implementing behaviour support plans (certification, Rules s 20). Specialist behaviour support on its own does not bring this module.

The NDIS Commission's review of the Practice Standards (a proposed quality framework and changes to the standards and how they are assessed) is still being considered; nothing from it is in force.

Module 2A 10.1Interim behaviour support plans (implementer): mainstream input to interim planssource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

The implementing provider collaborates with mainstream service providers such as police and other emergency services, mental health services and emergency departments, treating medical practitioners and other allied health clinicians in contributing to an interim plan developed by a specialist behaviour support provider.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Records of mainstream service input passed to the specialist for the interim plan
  • Case conference notes involving health or emergency services
  • Consent to share information with mainstream services
Common gap to check
  • Interim plan developed without known mental health or police involvement
  • No consent recorded for information sharing

The implementing provider works with the specialist behaviour support provider to support development of the interim behaviour support plan.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Referral to the specialist for an interim plan with date
  • Information supplied to the specialist for the interim plan
  • Meeting or call notes during interim plan development
Common gap to check
  • Delay in referring the participant for an interim plan
  • Implementing provider did not supply incident data
Module 2A 10.3Interim behaviour support plans (implementer): training workers on interim planssource

The implementing provider supports and enables workers to receive training in implementing the interim behaviour support plan.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Records of interim plan training or briefings for each rostered worker
  • Roster evidence of time allocated for training
  • Sign-off sheets confirming workers read the interim plan
Common gap to check
  • Workers rostered with the participant not trained on the interim plan
  • Training limited to permanent staff
