Who it applies to

Registered occupational therapists and physiotherapists. Not psychologists (the Psychology Board has its own code from 1 December 2025) and not speech pathologists (not registered under the National Law).

Requirement, our statement of the clause

In an emergency the practitioner offers help, weighing their own safety, what they are able to do, whether others can help, and the effect on other patients in their care, and keeps helping until their services are no longer needed.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Current first aid or basic life support certification appropriate to the profession
  • Emergency equipment checklist and practice emergency procedure
  • Clinical notes of any emergency assistance given, including when care was handed over

  • No emergency procedure or equipment check in the practice
  • Emergency care given with no record of the handover to ambulance or hospital
