2.1Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander healthsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

The practitioner understands Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health as a whole-of-life concept taking in the social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of the entire community, not only an individual's physical wellbeing, and takes into account factors such as colonisation and its effect on health and the social and health inequity these communities carry, which is why cultural safety for them is considered specifically.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Completed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety or history training recorded in the CPD log
  • Care records showing social, emotional and family context taken into account for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
  • Practice engagement with local Aboriginal community controlled health services recorded in referral pathways
Common gap to check
  • Cultural training done once at induction and never refreshed
  • Care planning addresses only the presenting physical condition
