A good partnership calls for personal conduct of a high standard. Good practice means the practitioner: (a) is courteous, respectful, compassionate and honest; (b) treats each patient as an individual; (c) encourages and supports patients to be well-informed and to use it in their decisions, their self-care and the management of their health, the consent process included; and (d) recognises the power imbalance in the relationship and takes no physical, emotional, sexual or financial advantage of patients (see 4.8 and 8.11).
- Patient feedback and complaints records showing how concerns about conduct were handled
- Education materials given to patients recorded in their notes
- Chaperone or observer policy for intimate examinations
- No channel for patients to give feedback on the practitioner's conduct
- Intimate examinations without an offered chaperone or recorded consent
