Health Practitioner Regulation National Law on the standards library
A registered practitioner (other than non-practising) does not practise unless appropriate professional indemnity insurance arrangements are in force for their practice, as the profession's registration standard defines, and gives the Board evidence of those arrangements when asked by written notice, unless there is a reasonable excuse. Breaches are not offences but grounds for health, conduct or performance action.
- Certificate of currency or employer indemnity confirmation covering all practice settings, including private and volunteer work
- Record of the insurance evidence given to the Board on request
- Employer register of indemnity for contractors and locums
- Employer's cover assumed to extend to private practice or volunteer work outside the employment
- Policy lapses between renewals while practice continues
- Private midwifery practice without cover meeting the registration standard
