Health Practitioner Regulation National Law on the standards library
A practitioner holding non-practising registration in a profession does not practise that profession. A breach is not an offence but can ground health, conduct or performance action. Employers and rosters should treat non-practising registration as no authority to practise.
- Register check record (Ahpra public register) showing each clinician's registration type before rostering
- Credentialing file noting any clinician on non-practising registration and the non-clinical role they fill
- Practitioner's own record of changing to general registration before resuming practice
- Clinician moved to non-practising registration during leave returns to clinical shifts before re-registering
- Credentialing check reads only the profession and not the registration type
- Non-practising registrant gives informal clinical advice or supervision that amounts to practice
