s 6(1)(c)Provide supports and services safely and competently, with care and skillsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

Every Code-covered person provides supports and services in a safe and competent manner, with care and skill. The provider makes sure workers have the training, competence and qualifications for the supports delivered, services follow relevant professional codes, work health and safety requirements are met, records are accurate and kept securely, and appropriate insurance is held; a worker works within their competence and raises gaps in training.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Position descriptions stating required qualifications and competencies for each support type
  • Training matrix and certificates for each worker, including high-risk supports (medication, mealtime, manual handling)
  • Current insurance certificates (public liability, professional indemnity, workers compensation)
  • Shift notes or case notes completed contemporaneously for each support delivered
Common gap to check
  • Workers rostered to supports they are not trained for (for example PEG feeding or medication)
  • No record of qualification checks for contractors or sole-trader subcontractors
  • Progress notes written days later or copied between shifts
