C-1Complete at least 20 hours of qualifying CPD each year, five of them interactivesource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

Each registered occupational therapist (not students or non-practising registrants) completes at least 20 hours of CPD each registration year that seeks to improve patient or client outcomes and experiences, draws on the best available evidence, directly improves competence and keeps the therapist current in their scope and setting, builds on existing knowledge, and includes at least five hours in an interactive setting with other practitioners (a two-way flow of information, face to face or interactive online).

Evidence that typically shows this
  • CPD log with hours per activity and the interactive hours identified
  • Evidence of participation such as certificates or attendance records
Common gap to check
  • Interactive hours below five
  • Activities unrelated to the therapist's scope and setting
C-2Keep a CPD portfolio with goals, plan and reflectionsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

Maintain a portfolio, paper or electronic, documenting learning goals, all planned CPD activities, and reflection on how the activities are expected to improve, or have improved, practice.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Portfolio showing goals set at the start of the year
  • Reflection entries linked to each activity
Common gap to check
  • Log of hours only, with no goals or reflection
  • Goals written retrospectively
C-3Do not count Board or tribunal required education as CPDsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

Education, training, mentoring or supervision required by the Board or a tribunal, for example under a condition or undertaking, is not counted towards the CPD requirement.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • CPD log separating mandated education from voluntary CPD
  • Copy of any condition or undertaking and the related education record
Common gap to check
  • Condition-required course counted towards the 20 hours
C-4Pro rata CPD when registering part-way through the yearsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

A therapist who registers during a registration period does five hours of CPD for each remaining quarter of that period; a first-time applicant for registration in Australia does not need to meet the standard on application.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Registration start date and the pro rata calculation
  • CPD log for the part year
Common gap to check
  • Full-year hours assumed not needed at all in the first part year
C-5Declare CPD at renewal, keep records five years, produce them on auditsource
Requirement, our statement of the clause

Declare at each renewal whether the standard was met; keep CPD records for five years; provide the portfolio or other information the Board asks for if audited or if a notification is received. Exemptions or variations, whole or partial, are available only in exceptional circumstances.

Evidence that typically shows this
  • Renewal declaration
  • Five years of CPD portfolios
  • Exemption application and decision where relevant
Common gap to check
  • Records discarded before five years
  • Declaration made while hours were short
